Meet the VV GROW Fellow: Chelsea Brown
Chelsea Brown is the Founder and CEO of the Millie Community, a for-purpose social enterprise creating access to education and economic growth for women worldwide, including many refugees. The Millie Community consists of three components: the Millie Market, the Millie Podcast, and the Millie Momentum Fund.
The Millie Market is an online shop featuring handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces, promoting economic opportunities and empowerment for women makers in 36 artisan communities across 19 countries. In founding the Millie Market, Chelsea realized many people want to give back to help others but need help knowing where to start. To solve this, The Millie Market allows people to make a difference by performing an act of kindness that impacts themselves and women worldwide.
The Millie Podcast is hosted by Chelsea and produced by a dedicated team of women, connecting listeners through stories and education. The podcast showcases riveting stories and interviews with women from all walks of life. Some examples of thought-leaders Chelsea has interviewed through the Millie Podcast include Sangita Patel, Lina Khalifeh, Pauline Schmidt, Nadine Kaadan, and Dame Elizabeth Anoinwe DBE FRCN.
Finally, The Millie Momentum Fund is a lifeline of financial assistance and guidance, enabling dynamic women to partake in conferences, summits, or continued education. A clear vision shapes this sponsorship program: empower women in their pursuit of growth, expansion, and self-realization.
After her experience working on the Pin Project in Jordan, Chelsea was inspired to create the Millie Community. The Pin Project connected Chelsea to Syrian refugees, many of whom she interviewed, and connected her with amazing people. Then Chelsea realized that the world would be more peaceful if everyone had a better understanding of their neighbors. Overall, the Millie Community gives women an outlet to express, give back, connect, and discover new opportunities. Through her remarkable achievements, Chelsea has demonstrated to women worldwide that you can create meaningful impact globally and locally.
