Meet the VV GROW Fellow: Lucy Muthusi
Lucy Muthusi grew up in Kenya and is the Co-founder and head of the Finance and Accounting department of Rockmont Limited.
Rockmont Limited supplies water to the residents of Ngongoni in Kitui County, Kenya to alleviate water scarcity in an area that experiences reoccurring droughts. When a drought occurs in Ngongoni, it is commonly the responsibility of the women and girls to walk and find water to bring back home. The trek to find water for their community is sometimes unsuccessful and dangerous, especially for young girls. Both Lucy and her Co-founder have had to travel significant distances for water, and their experiences motivated and inspired them to establish Rockmont Limited.
Rockmont Limited has successfully provided water to over 1,000 users in 200 homesteads. As a member of the Ngongoni community, Lucy has seen the direct impact of her business on her neighbors. As a result of their operations, consumers have started gardens, cut down on the costs of building infrastructure, and most importantly, specifically for women and girls, have saved time since traveling for water is no longer necessary.
Being a part of the VV GROW Fellowship has significantly impacted Lucy’s business and leadership. VV GROW has provided her with network opportunities and valuable training which has enhanced her leadership skills, broadened her perspective, and informed her decision-making for her business to better serve her customers and foster growth. Overall, Lucy is grateful for the new knowledge, insight, and connections that te VV GROW program has provided her.
In Lucy’s future endeavors, she envisions her business expanding its impact and exploring new communities while also leveraging their technology to enhance its efficiency. Lucy is continually driven by creating change, hearing her customers’ gratitude, and navigating being a woman leader, which she believes is about forging one’s path while empowering others.
Collectively, through her and her fellow Co-founders’ work at Rockmont Limited, Lucy has been an inspiration to her community. She has immensely impacted the Kitui County residents’ quality of life by supplying clean water and will soon have the same impact in other communities.
