Vital Voices sends our deepest condolences to the people of Pakistan, who continue to deal with the aftermath of devastating floods. Reports indicate nearly 1,400 people have been killed, and over 33 million people affected, including 600,000 pregnant women lacking maternal health services and millions of children with no immunization or nutritional care. In any natural disaster, we know that women and children are most impacted—and without homes, food, and medicine—families are desperately trying to survive.
We stand ready to support the efforts of our women-led local NGOs and partners. If you are interested in learning more about the women leading relief efforts for women and children on the ground, we have highlighted several local leaders with calls for support below.
- Roshaneh Zafar is providing beneficiaries in flood-stricken areas with food, shelter, clothes, and other necessities through the Kashf Foundation.
- VV Lead Fellow Jailia Haider is coordinating relief provisions through her social media channels for Balochistan, one of the worst hit provinces and cut off from the rest of the country.
- We Empower Awardee Sara Saeed is Co-Founder and CEO of Sehat Kahani and building medical flood relief camps in affected areas.
- Sameena Nazir’s organization PODA is specifically providing flood relief to women headed households.
