In a year marked by escalating threats to democracy, women around the globe are on the front lines, standing firm against rising authoritarianism, fighting for peace, justice, freedom of speech, and transparency.

As we gather in Warsaw, we bring our experiences, resolve, and shared mission to unite and strengthen the Vital Voices network in pursuit of these critical outcomes:

  • Empowering Individual Leaders: We aim for 100 concrete actions by 100 women leaders, amplifying impact in their local contexts.
  • Fostering Global Connections: We will develop a Playbook of actionable practices and recommendations for countering authoritarianism, drawn from diverse geographies and causes.
  • Driving Collective Action: Together, we will create a fundable, actionable campaign that unites our network around a shared goal.

The Summit is made possible through our partnership with the Empiria i Wiedza Foundation, and programmatic partner Council of Women World Leaders.

All conference events will be held at the Belloto Hotel with the exception of the Summit Registration and Welcome Reception, held at Hotel Verte.

Learn practical tools and strategies for emotional regulation in the face of ongoing hardship in the field. Trauma expert and former journalist, Shereen El Gazzar, will dive deeper into the ways trauma manifests in the body and explore everyday examples of how to take back control of your mental wellness.

In this workshop, we will understand emotional resilience and explore the brain and body reactions, following adversity in a framework known as “The Window of Tolerance.” We will engage in simple and practical tools that aim to reduce the intensity of emotions. Then, we will conclude by developing a sense of agency through focusing our attention on our circle of control.

Anna Nagler of the Vital Voices Poland Chapter will lead a special conversation with venerated opposition activist from 1980s communist Poland. On August 15, 1980, Henryka Krzywonos abruptly stopped the No. 15 streetcar she was driving, cited by many historians as the moment that the Solidarity strike began, ultimately leading to the collapse of communism. A true activist, she has been arrested (with a prison tattoo to show for it) and remains active as a leader today in the Polish parliament. In 2009, she was honored by the Women’s Congress with the title of Polish Woman of the 20th Century.

Authoritarian leaders are increasingly on the attack against climate activists.
