Lea Nepomuceno is the Founder of Beauty Beyond Bars, a nonprofit empowering incarcerated people with personal care. In less than a year, Beauty Beyond Bars has donated over $25,000 worth of products. Nepomuceno teaches incarcerated youth as part of the organization’s “Problem-Solving Through Policy” program. Students identify problems they have encountered with the juvenile justice system, craft solutions, and Nepomuceno’s team transforms their solutions into legislation. Beauty Beyond Bars is the proud sponsor of the Culturally-Competent Hair Care Act, a bill that ensures incarcerated people of color have access to suitable hair products.

Nepomuceno is an undergraduate at George Washington University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. She is a former school board member of the second-largest school district in California, and currently sits on the Executive Council of Brady’s Team ENOUGH.
