Chief Empowerment Officer, HerStore Asia
Carmen is a gender and development consultant and the Chief Empowerment Officer of HerStore Asia, a digital startup that supports women enterprises in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia. She has 15 years of experience in development in both the public and private sectors and is a Feminist Nurse Leader. Carmen has worked for non-governmental organizations Gawad Kalinga, VSO Nepal, and CFC Medical Mission and also served as Deputy and Acting Project Manager of a bilateral government project called the GREAT Women Project 2 of the Philippine Commission on Women, that supported over 3,500 women enterprises nationwide. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Santo Tomas and obtained her Master of Arts in Women and Development with an Academic Excellence Award from the University of the Philippines Diliman. In 2013, she was the youngest outstanding alumna awardee of the Manila Science High School, the first science high school in the Philippines. She is an ASEAN Youth Fellow and a 2022 YSEALI Professional Fellow. She is most passionate about building a better ecosystem for women’s economic empowerment.
