Danielle Saint-Lot – Voice of Change

Haiti

The Honorable Danielle Saint-Lot has been a leader in both the public and private sectors. Throughout the 1980s, she occupied several important positions in Haiti’s Ministries of Commerce and Industry and Foreign Affairs and External Cooperation. She was an independent candidate for the town of Petion-Ville in the 2000 mayoral elections. In 1990, she began working as an independent consultant for a number of organizations, both public and private, national and international. From 1996 to 1999, she was the president of Partners of the Americas Haiti-New Jersey. Recently, Danielle was appointed Haiti’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism.

Danielle St-Lot joined the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network in 1998, when she attended the Vital Voices Conference in Montevideo, Uruguay. Following the conference, Danielle returned home with her colleague Marie Lucie Bonhomme to organize a conference for Haitian women to discuss Vital Voices' work. This conference resulted in the formation of Femmes en Democratie, a nongovernmental organization and Global Network Affiliate Chapter of Vital Voices. Through this organization, Danielle St-Lot is working to bring economic opportunity to Haitian women through trade fairs and training workshops. Additionally, Danielle and Femmes en Democratie has worked to promote women's political participation and educate women of their human rights through the publication, Women’s Human Rights from A to Z.

For her tremendous work, Vital Voices honored Danielle St-Lot in 2004 at the Global Leadership Awards, after which she became a member of the Vital Voices Global Advisory Council. Danielle joined Vital Voices again in 2005 for a Global Leadership Summit and continues to participate in the Vital Voices Annual Leadership Summit & Training Program for Latin America & the Caribbean. In November of 2008, Vital Voices honored Danielle St. Lot for her tremendous efforts to promote change in her community with the Pay it Forward Recognition.
