
International Women’s Day honors women’s social, economic and political achievements worldwide. This commemorative holiday is rooted in a long history of women’s activism and has been celebrated since the early 20th century in countries around the world.
In 2010, Vital Voices Global Partnership celebrated women’s achievements throughout the month of March to honor International Women’s Day and raise awareness of women’s power to improve the world.
Vital Voices honored the achievements of exceptional women leaders from the U.S., Bahrain, Brazil, Afghanistan, Kenya and Pakistan at a star-studded gala in Washington, D.C. Presenters included Reese Witherspoon, Ann Moore, Brian Williams and Nicholas Kristof, among others. Read more »

The Vital Voices kicked off the summit with a one night performance of the theatrical play SEVEN, which highlights the stories of seven extraordinary women leaders.
Directed by Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor and featuring Academy Award-winning Actress Meryl Streep, the play is heralded by The Huffington Post as “riveting, explosive, and inspiring drama.”
